Hsinchu’s days belong to the science park; its late nights belong to the stomach. The supper map is a triangle — temple, market, station — each corner ten minutes from the next on foot.
Stop one: the temple plaza, golden hour before ten
Supper starts at the North District City God Temple. Rice noodles, pork ball soup and popiah steam under the lights until nine or ten. One trick: the queues tourists join and the stalls locals sit at are often different — follow the local accents, not the line.
Stop two: Dongmen Market’s night shift
After ten, walk to Dongmen Market. The day market’s lanes light up with Japanese diners, Korean kitchens and small bars, most holding until eleven or twelve. Fancy a drink? Stop three: the station front, the last insurance
Past midnight, Zhonghua Rd by the station takes over — braised snacks, savory congee, the old guard that outlasts the last train.
